Azalyf

Azalyf is a branded generic formulation of azathioprine, an immunosuppressive antimetabolite. It serves as a prodrug that is rapidly converted in vivo to 6-mercaptopurine (6-MP) and subsequently into active thioguanine nucleotides. These metabolites interfere with de novo purine biosynthesis by inhibiting enzymes such as amidophosphoribosyltransferase and are incorporated into cellular DNA, leading to the inhibition of DNA, RNA, and protein synthesis. This process effectively suppresses the proliferation of rapidly dividing cells, particularly T and B lymphocytes, making it useful for managing autoimmune conditions and preventing organ transplant rejection. Azalyf is marketed by Lyf Healthcare as an oral tablet.
