Overview

AZD-4818 is a small molecule drug developed by AstraZeneca as a potent antagonist of the chemokine receptor 1 (CCR1). The CCR1 receptor is involved in the recruitment and activation of immune cells such as monocytes and neutrophils to sites of inflammation. By blocking CCR1, AZD-4818 was intended to inhibit inflammatory responses, particularly in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The drug was investigated primarily for COPD and reached Phase II clinical trials. Despite being well tolerated when administered via inhalation, clinical studies did not demonstrate significant efficacy compared to placebo. Development for COPD has been discontinued[2][4][5][6][7][8].
