Overview

AZD-7268 is an orally administered small molecule δ-opioid receptor agonist that was developed by AstraZeneca for the treatment of major depressive disorder and potentially anxiety. It demonstrated high selectivity for the δ-opioid receptor over the μ-opioid receptor (approximately 2,000-fold) and showed potential antidepressant and anxiolytic effects in early studies. The drug reached phase 2 clinical trials but was discontinued after it failed to demonstrate efficacy in a phase 2 trial for major depressive disorder. Dose-limiting side effects included syncope (fainting), hypotension (low blood pressure), and dizziness[4][5][7].
