Overview

AZD-8330 is a potent, selective, orally active small molecule inhibitor of mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase 1 (MEK1) and 2 (MEK2). It blocks the RAS/RAF/MEK/ERK signaling pathway, which is implicated in cancer cell proliferation and survival. Preclinical studies demonstrated tumor suppressive activity in multiple human cancer models including melanoma, pancreatic, colon, lung, and breast cancers. The drug was developed for the treatment of solid tumors and advanced malignancies but development was discontinued after phase I clinical trials. The original developer was Array BioPharma; AstraZeneca led clinical development[1][2][3][5].
