Overview

AZD0947 (also known as ZD-0947) is a small molecule dual-action potassium channel modulator that acts as an activator of ATP-sensitive potassium (KATP) channels and an agonist of the voltage-gated potassium channel subunit Kv7.2 (KCNQ2). Developed by AstraZeneca, the compound was primarily investigated for the treatment of overactive bladder (OAB). By activating these potassium channels, AZD0947 aims to hyperpolarize smooth muscle cells in the bladder, thereby reducing detrusor overactivity and increasing bladder capacity. Despite its novel mechanism, the development of AZD0947 has been discontinued.
