**AZD1656 + simvastatin** is an experimental combination regimen comprising AZD1656, a small molecule oral glucokinase activator developed primarily for diabetes, and simvastatin, an oral HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor widely used as a lipid-lowering statin. AZD1656 enhances glucose-dependent insulin release by increasing glucokinase activity in pancreatic beta cells and modulating hepatic glucose handling[2][7]. Simvastatin inhibits cholesterol synthesis by blocking HMG-CoA reductase, thereby lowering LDL cholesterol[9]. The combination has been studied in clinical pharmacokinetic trials to assess drug-drug interactions and safety in type 2 diabetes, as well as in other exploratory or mechanistic clinical settings[1][3][5].
