Overview

AZD2098 is a potent and selective small molecule antagonist of the CC chemokine receptor 4 (CCR4). It inhibits CCL22-induced calcium flux in cells expressing human recombinant CCR4 and blocks CCL22- and CCL17-mediated Th2 cell chemotaxis. The compound shows high selectivity for CCR4 with no significant activity at other related chemokine receptors or across a broad panel of receptors and enzymes. Preclinical studies demonstrated that AZD2098 can inhibit lung inflammation in animal models following antigen challenge. It was initially developed by AstraZeneca for the treatment of asthma but its development has been discontinued[1][3][5][7].
