Overview
AZD2287 is an investigational agent developed by AstraZeneca, currently being evaluated in a Phase I clinical trial for metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC). It is part of a group of novel agents (including AZD2284 and AZD2275) designed as targeted alpha therapies. These agents utilize Actinium-225 chelated to monoclonal antibodies that are engineered to bind tumor-specific markers in prostate cancer, specifically Prostate-Specific Membrane Antigen (PSMA) and Six-Transmembrane Epithelial Antigen of Prostate 2 (STEAP2). The mechanism involves the delivery of high-energy alpha particles directly to cancer cells expressing these biomarkers, inducing lethal double-strand DNA breaks and leading to apoptosis. The ongoing trial aims to optimize dosing strategies and assess safety, tolerability, biodistribution, and initial efficacy[5][6][7].
