Overview

AZD2820 is a synthetic peptide drug developed by AstraZeneca as a potential treatment for obesity. It acts as an agonist of the melanocortin 4 receptor (MC4R), a receptor in the brain involved in regulating appetite and energy homeostasis. By weakly activating MC4R, AZD2820 suppresses appetite and was investigated for its ability to induce weight loss in obese individuals. The drug was administered via subcutaneous injection and underwent phase I clinical trials to assess safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamics in both healthy volunteers and obese men. Development of AZD2820 has since been discontinued[3][5][7].
