It acts as a selective blocker of the acetylcholine-regulated inwardly rectifying potassium current (IKACh) in human atrial myocytes (IC50=0.35 µM), with minimal off-target activity[1][5]. The drug targets the Kir3.1/Kir3.4 channel complex and is designed to prolong atrial refractoriness without affecting ventricular refractoriness or QT interval[5][7]. Preclinical studies demonstrated its efficacy in restoring sinus rhythm in animal models of atrial fibrillation[7]. Clinical development reached Phase II trials for arrhythmia indications but did not progress to approval[2][4][5].
