Overview

AZD4144 is an orally administered small molecule inhibitor of the NLRP3 inflammasome, developed by AstraZeneca. It is being investigated primarily for cardiovascular and kidney disorders, including chronic kidney disease and renal failure. The drug acts by inhibiting the NLRP3 protein (NACHT, LRR and PYD domains-containing protein 3), a key component in inflammatory signaling pathways implicated in these diseases. As of early 2025, AZD4144 is in Phase 1 clinical trials for cardiovascular disorders and chronic kidney disease[2][3][5].
