AZD6234

AZD6234 is a long-acting synthetic peptide that acts as a selective amylin receptor agonist. It is being developed by AstraZeneca for the treatment of obesity and overweight, including in patients with type 2 diabetes. Unlike most current obesity therapies that target incretin pathways (such as GLP-1), AZD6234 targets the amylin pathway to delay gastric emptying, suppress appetite, and promote glucagon release from the pancreas. Early clinical data suggest it may offer an alternative for patients intolerant to incretin-based therapies and could promote fat-selective weight loss while sparing lean muscle mass. The drug is administered via subcutaneous injection once weekly[5][9].
