Overview

AZD6563 is an investigational mRNA-based vaccine developed by AstraZeneca for the prevention of COVID-19. It is designed to encode the spike protein of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, specifically targeting the Omicron XBB.1.5 variant. The vaccine is part of AstraZeneca's next-generation COVID-19 vaccine portfolio, moving beyond the viral vector platform (AZD1222) into mRNA technology. It is currently being evaluated in Phase I clinical trials (such as the ARTEMIS-C study) to assess its safety and immunogenicity compared to earlier mRNA vaccine candidates like AZD9838.
