AZD6714

AZD6714 is an oral small molecule drug developed as a glucokinase activator for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Glucokinase is an enzyme that plays a key role in glucose metabolism by facilitating the phosphorylation of glucose to glucose-6-phosphate, acting as a glucose sensor and regulating blood sugar levels. By activating glucokinase, AZD6714 was intended to enhance insulin secretion and improve glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes. The drug underwent phase 1 clinical trials to assess its safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamics in healthy male volunteers and male patients with type 2 diabetes[1][2]. Development of AZD6714 was discontinued before reaching later-stage clinical trials[3].
