AZD6912 is a small interfering RNA (siRNA) therapeutic developed by AstraZeneca for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. It specifically targets and inhibits the expression of complement factor B (CFB), a key component in the alternative pathway of the complement system, which plays a role in inflammatory processes. Preclinical studies demonstrated that AZD6912 effectively reduces hepatic CFB mRNA and serum CFB protein levels, leading to suppression of alternative pathway activity and reduction in articular inflammation and damage. The drug is administered subcutaneously and is currently being evaluated for safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamics in Phase 1 clinical trials involving healthy participants[1][2][3][4][5][7][9].
