AZD7325 is a novel, investigational small molecule that acts as a high-affinity, selective positive allosteric modulator of the GABA-A receptor system. It exhibits partial agonist activity with selectivity for the α2 and α3 subunits of the GABA-A receptor, while showing neutral antagonism at the α1 subunit and lower efficacy at the α5 subunit. This subtype-selective modulation is designed to provide anxiolytic effects without significant sedation or cognitive impairment typically associated with non-selective benzodiazepines. Developed by AstraZeneca, AZD7325 has been studied primarily for anxiety disorders (notably generalized anxiety disorder) and autism spectrum disorder in Phase 2 clinical trials[1][2][3][4][6][8].
