Overview

AZD7503 is an investigational drug developed by AstraZeneca for the treatment of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). It is being evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials to assess its safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics, and ability to reduce harmful substances in the liver. The drug is administered via subcutaneous injection. Mechanistically, AZD7503 acts by knocking down hepatic HSD17B13 mRNA expression—a target implicated in the pathogenesis of NAFLD/NASH—suggesting it may function as an RNA-based therapy or antisense oligonucleotide targeting HSD17B13[6][1][5].
