AZD9838 is an investigational messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccine candidate developed by AstraZeneca for the prevention of COVID-19. The vaccine encodes the spike (S) protein of the SARS-CoV-2 virus and is delivered using a lipid nanoparticle (LNP) platform. By introducing the mRNA sequence into host cells, AZD9838 triggers the production of the viral spike protein, which subsequently stimulates the immune system to generate neutralizing antibodies and T-cell responses against the virus. AZD9838 is part of AstraZeneca's next-generation vaccine portfolio aimed at addressing emerging variants of concern and is being evaluated in early-phase clinical trials, such as the ARTEMIS-C study, to characterize its safety and immunogenicity in adult populations.
