AZD9898 is an orally active, non-steroidal small molecule inhibitor of leukotriene-C4 synthase (LTC4S, also known as glutathione S-transferase II), with a reported IC50 of 0.28 nM[1][3][4][5]. It was developed as a potential anti-inflammatory and antiasthmatic agent, targeting the LTC4S enzyme to inhibit leukotriene C4 synthesis—a key mediator in inflammatory and allergic responses such as asthma[3]. The drug demonstrated high potency in cellular assays and was investigated for its ability to mitigate GABA binding and hepatic toxicity signals[1][5].
