Drug intelligence / Profile preview
AZID is a brand of azithromycin, a macrolide antibiotic of the azalide subclass, manufactured by Indi Pharma. It exerts its therapeutic effect by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit of susceptible bacteria, thereby inhibiting RNA-dependent protein synthesis. AZID is indicated for a wide range of bacterial infections, including respiratory tract infections (such as pneumonia, bronchitis, and sinusitis), skin and soft tissue infections, and otitis media. It is also effective against certain sexually transmitted diseases, including gonorrhea and chancroid, as well as other conditions like typhoid and granuloma inguinale. The drug is available in various formulations, including 500mg tablets and pediatric-specific preparations.
