Overview

Azimete is an oral macrolide antibiotic, specifically an azalide subclass, containing azithromycin dihydrate. Developed and marketed by Medimet Pharmaceuticals in Bangladesh, it is used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections, including lower respiratory tract infections (bronchitis and pneumonia), upper respiratory tract infections (sinusitis and pharyngitis/tonsillitis), otitis media, skin and soft tissue infections, and sexually transmitted diseases such as non-gonococcal urethritis and cervicitis caused by *Chlamydia trachomatis*. The drug exerts its antibacterial effect by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit of susceptible microorganisms, thereby interfering with microbial protein synthesis. It is available in 500 mg film-coated tablets and as a 200 mg/5 ml suspension for oral administration.
