Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Azithromycin and erythromycin are macrolide antibiotics used to treat various bacterial infections. Both work by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis, preventing bacteria from growing and multiplying. They are commonly used for respiratory infections (pneumonia, bronchitis), skin/skin-structure infections, and pharyngitis/tonsillitis. When used together, they may have additive effects on QT interval prolongation, potentially increasing the risk of ventricular arrhythmias.
