Overview

Azithromycin + amlodipine is a combination of two pharmaceutical drugs, each with distinct mechanisms and indications. Azithromycin is a macrolide antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 23S rRNA of the bacterial 50S ribosomal subunit, thereby blocking the transpeptidation/translocation step and assembly of the ribosome. This action results in broad-spectrum antibacterial activity and is used primarily for treating various bacterial infections[1][6]. Amlodipine is a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker that acts as a peripheral arterial vasodilator by inhibiting calcium ion influx into vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle cells, leading to reduced peripheral vascular resistance and blood pressure. It is mainly indicated for hypertension and angina[4]. The combination does not represent a fixed-dose product but may be co-prescribed in clinical practice when both an antibiotic (azithromycin) and antihypertensive/antianginal therapy (amlodipine) are needed.
