Drug intelligence / Profile preview
AF-Kit is a combination anti-infective product marketed by Systopic Laboratories. It is formulated as a combipack containing three active ingredients: azithromycin (a macrolide antibiotic), fluconazole (an azole antifungal), and ornidazole (a nitroimidazole antiprotozoal/antibacterial). AF-Kit is primarily indicated for the syndromic treatment of mixed vaginal infections and abnormal vaginal discharge, including bacterial vaginosis, vaginal candidiasis (yeast infections), and trichomoniasis. Azithromycin works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis via binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit. Fluconazole inhibits fungal ergosterol synthesis by targeting lanosterol 14-alpha-demethylase, thereby disrupting fungal cell membrane integrity. Ornidazole is reduced to reactive intermediates that damage microbial DNA, leading to cell death in anaerobic bacteria and protozoa.
