Azithromycin + Xiyanping is a combination therapy used primarily in China for the treatment of respiratory infections, especially Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia in pediatric patients. Azithromycin is a macrolide antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit, thereby exerting broad-spectrum antibacterial activity against various Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria[1][4]. Xiyanping is a traditional Chinese medicine injection derived from andrographolide sulfonate, an active compound extracted from Andrographis paniculata. It possesses anti-inflammatory, antiviral, antipyretic, and antibacterial properties through mechanisms such as inhibition of pro-inflammatory cytokines (e.g., TNF-α and interleukins), modulation of NF-κB signaling pathways, and enhancement of immune function[3][5]. The combination has demonstrated synergistic effects in clinical studies for improving outcomes in pediatric respiratory infections by enhancing antibacterial efficacy and reducing inflammation[2][4][7].
