Azithromycin-Akrikhin

Azithromycin-Akrikhin is a generic macrolide antibiotic of the azalide subclass, developed and marketed by the Russian pharmaceutical company Akrikhin. The drug contains azithromycin, which functions by binding to the 50S subunit of the bacterial ribosome, specifically the 23S rRNA, thereby inhibiting RNA-dependent protein synthesis and preventing bacterial growth. It is widely used for the treatment of various bacterial infections, including upper and lower respiratory tract infections (such as community-acquired pneumonia and bronchitis), skin and soft tissue infections, and certain urogenital infections caused by Chlamydia trachomatis. As a generic formulation, it is designed to be bioequivalent to the reference product, Zithromax, providing a broad-spectrum antibacterial option in an oral dosage form.
