Drug intelligence / Profile preview
AZM198 (also known as AZM-198) is a selective, orally active, and irreversible myeloperoxidase (MPO) inhibitor developed by AstraZeneca. It acts as a suicide substrate, covalently binding to the heme prosthetic group of MPO to preferentially inhibit extracellular MPO activity. By blocking MPO, AZM198 reduces the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), neutrophil degranulation, and neutrophil extracellular trap (NET) formation. In preclinical models, AZM198 has demonstrated therapeutic potential in various inflammatory and cardiovascular conditions, including ANCA-associated vasculitis (AAV), crescentic glomerulonephritis, myocardial infarction, non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), pulmonary hypertension, and atherosclerotic plaque instability.
