Overview

Azolen Anti-Fungal Wash is an over-the-counter (OTC) topical antifungal product developed and marketed by Stratus Pharmaceuticals. The formulation contains 2% miconazole nitrate, an imidazole-class antifungal agent. Miconazole works by inhibiting the fungal enzyme lanosterol 14-alpha-demethylase, which is essential for the biosynthesis of ergosterol, a critical component of fungal cell membranes. The resulting depletion of ergosterol and accumulation of methylated precursors lead to the disruption of fungal cell membrane integrity and function, ultimately inhibiting fungal growth. Azolen is specifically indicated for the treatment of common cutaneous fungal infections, including athlete's foot (tinea pedis), jock itch (tinea cruris), and ringworm (tinea corporis). It is designed as a wash to be applied to affected areas during showering to relieve symptoms such as itching, scaling, cracking, burning, and redness.
