Azorga

Azorga is a fixed-dose combination ophthalmic suspension consisting of brinzolamide (10 mg/mL) and timolol (5 mg/mL, as timolol maleate). Brinzolamide is a potent inhibitor of carbonic anhydrase II (CA-II), which reduces the rate of aqueous humor secretion by slowing the formation of bicarbonate ions. Timolol is a non-selective beta-adrenergic receptor blocking agent that reduces intraocular pressure by decreasing aqueous humor production in the ciliary body. Developed by Alcon, Azorga is indicated for the reduction of intraocular pressure (IOP) in adult patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension for whom monotherapy provides insufficient IOP reduction. The combination of these two agents provides a synergistic effect on lowering IOP through two distinct mechanisms of action.
