Overview

AZP-IL33 is an orally available small molecule inhibitor of interleukin-33 (IL-33) being developed by Azcuris for the treatment of asthma and atopic dermatitis. It acts as an anti-inflammatory and antiasthmatic agent by inhibiting IL-33, a cytokine involved in Th2 immune responses and inflammation. The drug is classified as a new molecular entity and is currently in preclinical development for both asthma and atopic dermatitis[1][2]. IL-33 mediates its biological effects via the ST2 receptor, activating NF-kappaB and MAP kinases to drive production of Th2-associated cytokines such as IL‑4, IL‑5, and IL‑13[3][4]. By blocking this pathway, AZP‑IL33 aims to reduce inflammation associated with these diseases.
