Azuclox

AZUCLOX is a combination antibiotic small molecule drug developed and manufactured by Kampala Pharmaceutical Industries in Uganda. It contains two active ingredients: ampicillin (250 mg) and cloxacillin (250 mg), formulated as an oral capsule. Both components are beta-lactam antibiotics that work by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis through the targeting of penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs). Ampicillin provides broad-spectrum coverage against various gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, while cloxacillin is a penicillinase-resistant penicillin that extends the drug's efficacy to include penicillinase-producing staphylococci. Approved in Uganda in 1997, Azuclox is used to treat a range of bacterial infections where mixed or resistant pathogens are suspected.
