B-CAVIR

B-CAVIR is an antiviral small molecule medication containing entecavir (as monohydrate), developed and marketed by the Argentine pharmaceutical company Laboratorios Lafedar. It is indicated for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection in adults with evidence of active viral replication and either evidence of persistent elevations in serum aminotransferases (ALT or AST) or histologically active disease. As a nucleoside analog, entecavir is phosphorylated to its active triphosphate form, which competes with the natural substrate deoxyguanosine triphosphate for the HBV DNA polymerase. This action inhibits three functional activities of the viral polymerase: base priming, reverse transcription of the negative strand from the pregenomic messenger RNA, and synthesis of the positive strand of HBV DNA, thereby effectively suppressing viral replication.
