BCSP (B-cell specific peptide) is an experimental peptide-based cancer vaccine developed primarily for the treatment of multiple myeloma. The vaccine is designed to stimulate a patient's immune system, specifically T-cell responses, against proteins that are uniquely or highly expressed on the surface of malignant B-cells. By presenting these specific peptide antigens, the vaccine aims to induce a targeted cytotoxic T-lymphocyte (CTL) response to identify and eliminate myeloma cells while sparing healthy non-B-cell tissues. Research into BCSP has largely been conducted in academic settings, such as the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS), often in the context of post-autologous stem cell transplant consolidation therapy to eradicate minimal residual disease.
