Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Avivo Biomedical (formerly ABOzymes Biomedical) is developing a B-to-O Enzyme platform designed to convert blood group B antigens on the surface of red blood cells or organs into the universal donor type O. This technology utilizes proprietary enzymes to remove or modify the specific sugar molecules that constitute the B antigen, thereby eliminating its immunogenicity. The primary goal is to address blood type incompatibility in blood transfusions and organ transplantations by creating Enzyme-Converted type O (ECO) products ex vivo. The technology is currently in the preclinical research stage and aims to expand the pool of available donor blood and organs.
