B.63521 is a recombinant protein subunit vaccine candidate targeting the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). It consists of the HIV-1 envelope glycoprotein gp120 from subtype B (strain 63521), designed to stimulate an immune response against HIV infection, particularly for prophylactic use in preventing acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). The vaccine is being evaluated in combination with other antigens such as A244 and formulated with adjuvants like Army Liposome Formulation containing QS-21 saponin (ALFQ) to enhance immunogenicity. Preclinical studies have shown that vaccination with B.63521 can boost Env-specific antibody responses, including binding, avidity, and antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity (ADCC), especially when used in heterologous prime-boost regimens[1][4][6]. The primary indication under investigation is prevention of HIV infection.
