Drug intelligence / Profile preview
B222 (also known as B222 LAI 7M) is an ultra-long-acting injectable (LAI) formulation of the atypical antipsychotic aripiprazole, currently under development by Bostal Pharma. Utilizing the 505(b)(2) regulatory pathway, B222 is engineered to provide sustained therapeutic drug levels over a seven-month period, significantly extending the dosing interval compared to existing monthly or bimonthly formulations. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of schizophrenia and bipolar I disorder. The formulation leverages Bostal's proprietary delivery technology to ensure stable plasma concentrations, aiming to enhance medication adherence and reduce the risk of relapse in patients with chronic psychiatric conditions. Aripiprazole, the active ingredient, exerts its effects through a combination of partial agonism at dopamine D2 and serotonin 5-HT1A receptors and antagonism at serotonin 5-HT2A receptors.
