Overview

B2227 is an extended-release injectable suspension of cariprazine, an atypical antipsychotic, developed by Bostal Drug Delivery. It is designed for subcutaneous administration to treat schizophrenia, aiming to provide a long-acting alternative to daily oral cariprazine (Vraylar). Cariprazine's unique pharmacological profile includes partial agonism at dopamine D3 and D2 receptors, with a higher affinity for D3, as well as partial agonism at serotonin 5-HT1A receptors and antagonism at 5-HT2B and 5-HT2A receptors. The B2227 formulation utilizes specialized drug delivery technology to maintain therapeutic drug levels over an extended period, which may improve treatment adherence and reduce the risk of relapse in patients with schizophrenia.
