Overview

B27PD is a small peptide drug developed as an oral therapy for autoimmune uveitis, a chronic intraocular inflammatory condition that can lead to vision loss. The peptide mimics the retinal S-antigen (arrestin), which is implicated in the autoimmune response underlying uveitis. By presenting this antigen orally, B27PD aims to induce immune tolerance and downregulate the pathological immune response against ocular antigens. Clinical studies have shown that treatment with B27PD can reduce inflammation and decrease reliance on immunosuppressive or anti-inflammatory medications in patients with chronic noninfectious uveitis. The drug has demonstrated safety and tolerability in early-phase clinical trials[1][3][5].
