B7-AML is a cell-based vaccine composed of irradiated acute myelogenous leukemia (AML) cells that have been genetically modified to ectopically express the B7.1 (CD80) costimulatory molecule. This vaccine is designed to induce a potent CD8+ T-cell mediated immune response against AML cells. By providing both tumor-specific antigens and the crucial B7.1 costimulatory signal, B7-AML aims to overcome the immune evasion mechanisms of leukemia and stimulate cytotoxic T lymphocytes to eliminate tumor cells. Studies have shown its potential to cure leukemia in murine models, particularly when administered early in the disease or in combination with cytoreductive chemotherapy.
