Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**BA.2 DNA vaccine** is a preclinical plasmid DNA vaccine candidate developed by **Alvea** under its **Alveavax** platform for prevention of **COVID-19**. It is designed against antigens from the **SARS-CoV-2 Omicron BA.2 subvariant** and works by delivering DNA encoding viral antigen sequences into host cells, which then produce antigen-coding mRNA and express the antigen protein to elicit an immune response. The program was described as the first announced BA.2-specific vaccine to enter animal testing and was positioned as a scalable, shelf-stable vaccine approach intended to support distribution in low- and middle-income countries.
