Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Babao Eye Cream (八宝眼霜) is a topical functional cosmetic developed by the Ma Yinglong Pharmaceutical Group, a historic Chinese company with over 400 years of heritage. Launched in 2009, the product is based on the 'Eight Treasures Eye Medicine' (八宝眼药) formula, a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) recipe dating back to the Ming Dynasty that was recognized as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2011. The formulation combines traditional TCM ingredients such as pearl powder, borneol, and bezoar with modern cosmetic components including licorice root extract, horsetail extract, vitamin E acetate, and muskone. It is designed for topical application to the eye area to address concerns such as dark circles, eye bags, fine lines, and general ocular discomfort. While it is used to manage specific eye-related symptoms, it is marketed as a functional cosmetic (药妆) rather than a pharmaceutical drug and does not have a specified molecular biological target.
