Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Bac-FRP-3 is a lytic bacteriophage belonging to the *Siphoviridae* family that specifically targets and lyses enterotoxigenic *Bacteroides fragilis* (ETBF). Developed by iNtRON Biotechnology, Bac-FRP-3 is designed to selectively eliminate ETBF, a colorectal cancer (CRC)-associated pathobiont that disrupts epithelial tight junctions and promotes chronic inflammation. In preclinical studies using patient-derived normal colon organoids, treatment with Bac-FRP-3 restored epithelial viability, preserved E-cadherin expression, reduced DNA damage, and reversed inflammatory signaling pathways (such as NF-κB). It is being investigated as a microbiome-based strategy for the prevention and treatment of ETBF-associated infections and colorectal cancer.
