Overview

Baccharis halimifolia pollen is an allergenic extract derived from the pollen of the groundsel tree (*Baccharis halimifolia*), a shrub native to the eastern United States. It is primarily used as a diagnostic tool in allergy testing to identify patients with hypersensitivity to this specific pollen, which is a common fall allergen. The extract is administered via skin testing (intradermal or percutaneous) or subcutaneous routes. It works by eliciting a localized IgE-mediated allergic response in sensitized individuals, allowing for the diagnosis of allergic rhinitis or other respiratory allergies triggered by the plant. In addition to diagnostic use, such extracts may be used in subcutaneous immunotherapy (SCIT) to desensitize patients over time.
