The BACE1 program is a discovery-stage therapeutic development effort by ProMIS Neurosciences targeting Beta-site APP cleaving enzyme 1 (BACE1) for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), and Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD). BACE1 is a protease responsible for the initial cleavage of amyloid precursor protein (APP), a critical step in the generation of amyloid-beta (Aβ) peptides that aggregate into neurotoxic plaques. ProMIS aims to utilize its proprietary computational platform to develop selective inhibitors or antibodies that target specific conformations of the enzyme, potentially overcoming the safety and efficacy limitations observed with earlier non-selective BACE inhibitors in clinical trials.
