Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Bacicoline-B is a topical otic formulation containing a combination of three active ingredients: **hydrocortisone acetate** (a corticosteroid), **bacitracin** (a polypeptide antibiotic), and **colistin** (a polymyxin antibiotic). Manufactured by Daleco Pharma, it is indicated for the treatment of inflammation and infection of the external auditory canal, including otitis externa diffusa and secondarily infected eczema. The product exerts its therapeutic effect through the anti-inflammatory action of hydrocortisone and the broad-spectrum antibacterial activity of bacitracin (targeting gram-positive bacteria) and colistin (targeting gram-negative bacteria like *Pseudomonas aeruginosa*). It has been evaluated in Phase 4 clinical trials, notably by the Universitair Medisch Centrum Utrecht, to compare its efficacy as a local eardrop therapy against systemic antibiotics for children with acute otitis media presenting with ear discharge.
