Drug intelligence / Profile preview
bacilli cluster xvii strain relative clostridium aq innocuum live is a specific live bacterial strain belonging to the Clostridia Cluster XVII, identified as a relative of *Clostridium innocuum*. It is a key component of **VE303**, a defined live biotherapeutic product (LBP) consortium developed by **Vedanta Biosciences**. VE303 is composed of eight distinct, clonal commensal bacterial strains that work synergistically to restore the gut microbiota and provide colonization resistance against *Clostridioides difficile*. This specific strain contributes to the therapeutic effect by competing with *C. difficile* for essential nutrients and producing metabolites that inhibit the pathogen's growth and toxin production. It is currently being evaluated in Phase 3 clinical trials as part of the VE303 consortium for the prevention of recurrent *Clostridioides difficile* infection (rCDI) and in Phase 2 for hepatic encephalopathy.
