Overview

*Bacillus amyloliquefaciens* is a Gram-positive, aerobic, spore-forming bacterium widely utilized as a biocontrol agent in agriculture and a probiotic in animal nutrition and human health. It belongs to the *Bacillus subtilis* species complex and is characterized by its robust ability to colonize the rhizosphere and gastrointestinal tract. Its primary mechanism of action involves the synthesis of a diverse array of secondary metabolites, including cyclic lipopeptides (surfactin, iturin, and fengycin) and polyketides (difficidin, macrolactin), which exhibit potent antifungal and antibacterial activities. In plants, it triggers induced systemic resistance (ISR) by activating jasmonic acid and ethylene signaling pathways. In animals, specific strains enhance intestinal barrier function, modulate immune responses, and alleviate oxidative stress. Additionally, it is a significant industrial source of enzymes such as alpha-amylase and proteases, and is employed in the biodegradation of mycotoxins like aflatoxin B1 and zearalenone.
