Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Bacillus brevis SB4D extract is an experimental antimicrobial extract derived from the soil-borne bacterium *Bacillus brevis* (strain SB4D), which was isolated in Gwagwalada, Federal Capital Territory, Nigeria. Developed by researchers at the Nigerian Defence Academy, the ethyl acetate extract of the fermentation supernatant has demonstrated significant antibacterial activity against Gram-negative clinical isolates, specifically *Escherichia coli*. GC-MS profiling of the extract indicates the presence of volatile and semi-volatile compounds, including acetoin, 2,3-butanedione, and branched-chain fatty acids, which are believed to contribute to its bioactivity. It is currently under preclinical investigation for potential pharmaceutical development as an antibiotic.
