bacillus calmette-guérin purified protein derivative is a diagnostic reagent developed by Anhui Zhifei Longcom Biopharmaceutical for the detection of tuberculosis infection and the evaluation of BCG vaccination efficacy. The product consists of a purified protein fraction derived from the Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) strain of Mycobacterium bovis. Administered via intradermal injection, it functions by eliciting a delayed-type hypersensitivity (DTH) response in individuals whose immune systems have been sensitized to mycobacterial antigens through prior infection or vaccination. The resulting skin induration, measured 48 to 72 hours after administration, serves as a marker of cell-mediated immunity. This reagent is particularly useful in clinical protocols for screening populations for tuberculosis and monitoring the success of BCG immunization programs.
