Bacillus coagulans Hammer cell-free supernatant (CFS) is a postbiotic derivative consisting of the liquid medium remaining after the removal of Bacillus coagulans Hammer (often identified as strain ATCC 31284) cells. This supernatant contains a variety of bioactive secreted metabolites, including organic acids, bacteriocins, and extracellular vesicles. Preclinical research indicates that these components can exert antiproliferative and pro-apoptotic effects on human colorectal adenocarcinoma cell lines in vitro. The mechanism of action involves the modulation of apoptotic signaling pathways, such as the activation of caspases and the downregulation of anti-apoptotic proteins like Bcl-2, leading to programmed cell death in malignant cells. It is primarily investigated for its potential as a postbiotic or anticancer agent in the prevention and treatment of colorectal cancer.
